Archaeology

eltono-romanones-01

As my friend Guillermo from escritoenlapared says, this is and “archaeological” post.
It started when I painted this newspaper kiosk in late 2005 in the center of Madrid, quite close to the Plaza Mayor

Then, in late 2006, someone painted some black lines and dots over it, so I came back and painted red again over the black invasion.

This “Someone” came back and painted over it again! So I decided to paint a new piece over everything. The new piece survived and got older until October 2009, when the City council decided to clean the kiosk…
And this is when the magic happened…

The cleaning crew scratched off the second piece and the first one was revealed mixing them together! This unexpected and uncontrolled result is totally amazing for me! Just like in the project Pubblico I did early this year in Milano, where people tore up posters to reveal others hidden behind.

Then, a few days after the cleaning, real (and legal) art come over the whole kiosk…

Thanks a lot to Guillermo for the pictures and for the post he did about it: www.escritoenlapared.com/2009/10/eltono-y-nuria-de-nuevo-en-madrid.html (scroll down!)
