Kyokai Project (Boundary) #1, Yusaku’s house

While I was in Tokyo working on the installation for the Art Re-Public Festival, my friend Yusaku invited me to do a painting in his house. That same night, as soon as I finished, I painted an identical piece in his neighborhood.

It happens quiet often that people ask me to paint in their house, but doing it this way, painting a replica in the street, I made an artwork that was private, public. An artwork which was only enjoyable by a small group of people is now available to everyone. The private artwork is made public and at the same time, the owner of the private piece is in some way also converted into the owner of the public piece.

Street painting with MOMO in Santa Teresa

While MOMO and I were hard working for the Rio Nova event, we took advantage of the situation and painted this piece in Santa Teresa. I will publish the complete documentation about the project we developed in the Parque Lage very soon…Сувенири

Back to Hanoi

Now that I live so close, when my very good friend 3ttman told me he was working on various projects in Hanoi… I jumped at the opportunity to go see him. We took a weekend off from the city and went to a small village, 60 km from the capital. After lunch on Sunday I painted a piece with the company of almost all the children in the village. Amazing!

By the way I went back to the hotel I painted last July to take new pictures and meet with the architects…

Transformation in Tampiquito

Another interesting transformation happened in Tampiquito. Two photographers (and good friends of mine) Maf and Samuel both sent me pictures of this painting I did back in 2009 during the Residencia Tampiquito project:

My good friend and fellow artist Sixe just sent me a picture of a painting I did almost 3 years ago in Cuzco, Peru. It is interesting how the wall around got destroyed but the door and the painting are still there!

Transformation, Calzada Madero, Monterrey

My very good friend MAF just sent me three pictures of the current state of a piece I painted three years ago in the center of Monterrey. I am really interested in documenting the evolution of my paintings overtime and this is a great example of anthropogenically transformed artwork.

The original painting back in October 2007.

I went back to Monterrey in October 2008 and took this picture. The painting had been covered with grey paint by construction workers or perhaps a city cleaning service.

October 2010 – The building was destroyed and the board I painted was reused as scaffolding! Also, it looks like the grey paint has washed away, perhaps a side effect of hurricane Alex…

Amazing!

Last year, MAF sent me a another picture of a very interesting transformation. This also took place in Monterrey, but this time in the Huasteca.
